Born on 4 October 1944, La Russa is best known for serving as manager for Major League Baseball (MLB) clubs including the Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics and St Louis Cardinals. Between 1986 and 1995, he worked for the Oakland Athletics,.and as the manager went on to earn him and his team three consecutive wins in American League Championship from 1988 to 1990, and the World Series in 1989. In the year 1996, he left Oakland Athletics to join St. Louis Cardinals as a manager and he worked with the team until 2011, winning seven National League Central titles, and the World Series in 2006 and 2011, after which he retired as a manager. For the next three years Tony took a managerial position with the MLB, and then recently Tony made a comeback to a more active role as an executive for the Arizona Diamondbacks where he has been working since 2014.

During his career in baseball, he was awarded as Manager of the Year for four years in 1983, 1988, 1992 as well as in 2002. Tony was induced into the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2014 and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 with 100% votes of the electors.

As for his personal life, Tony has married twice, firstly to Luzette Sarcone(1967-73) with whom he has two daughters, and since 1973 to Elaine Coker, two more daughters and living in Alamo, California.
