Kitsch attended Gleneagle Secondary School in Conquitlam, and after graduation, he moved to Alberta to become a student of Nutritional Training at the University of Lethbridge. However, as a three-year-old boy, he had started playing junior ice hockey and had a wish to become a professional player. Kitsch played in the British Columbia Hockey League, for the Langley Hornets team, but soon he unfortunately suffered a serious knee injury so he was forced to abandon his dream of becoming a professional hockey player.

In 2002, Taylor moved to New York, as he managed to sign a contract with the IMG talent management group. However, as he had to wait two years for his first job as a model, during those two years Taylor took acting classes, and worked as a nutritionist and fitness trainer.

In 2004 Taylor moved to Los Angeles, and soon landed a modeling gig with Diesel, and additionally with Abercrombie & Finch. Soon Taylor gained needed attention from film producers thanks to his good looks, and with his acting lessons, it was only a matter of time before he made his screen debut. Taylor`s next assignment in the film industry was the role of Joel Herrod in the film “Gospel Hill” (2008), which featured Adam Baldwin in the lead role. In 2009, he was chosen to play Gambit in Gavin Hood`s film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, alongside Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber and Ryan Reynolds, which increased his net worth by a large margin.
