His father was a State Deputy of Hawaii, and currently serves as Supreme Warden for the Knights of Columbus. During his schooling at St.Anthony High School, Shane was an Hawaii state track and field high school champ in the 100m,200m and 400m events. Straight out of school, in the sixth round of the 1999 MLB draft, Victorino was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers and spent the next two seasons in the Dodgers minor league system. In the 2002 Rule 5 draft – which prevents ’rich’ clubs having too many players – he was selected by the San Diego Padres and made his Major League debut in April 2003 – Shane played 36 games for the Padres, and was eventually returned to the Dodgers for two more seasons. In December 2004, he was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies, and was assigned to their Triple-A minor league club. With his impressive play, he earned the International League All-Star and Most Valuable Player honors, which led to him being selected as a Baseball America second team Minor League All Star, Phillies Minor League Player of the Year and a Triple-A All-Star.

In a game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2008 NLDS, Vicrorino hit his first major league grand slam, and received the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award the same year. His success continued throughout 2008, as he led the Phillies to win the 2008 World Series. With a record breaking 15.6 million votes, Shane won the All-Star Game Final Vote in July 2009 and was named as the National League’s 2009 All-Star team member, which made him the first Hawaiian-born positional player to be so named. In the same season, Victorino won his second consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Award, and other awards continued, as he received the Tug McGraw „Good Guy Award“ in 2010, and the Branch Rickey Award by the Rotary Club of Denver in 2011. After signing a 3-year, $39 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, and helped the team reach the World Series plus receiving the American League Gold Glove Award for his outstanding play. Having played for several well-known teams, Victorino filed for free agency in November 2015. However, in February 2016, he signed to a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs, but was released in May the same year.

When it comes to his private life, Shane married Melissa Smith in November 2009, and the couple has two children; the family lives in Las Vegas. Victorino is an Eagle Scout and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He even had a cameo role in an episode of „Hawaii Five – 0“.
