He had originally committed to play with the University of Louisville but then decided to go straight into the NBA.

Sebastian was the 13th overall pick during the 2004 NBA draft, selected by the Portland Trail Blazers. Just after a month of playing with the team, he became part of the starting lineup but had difficulties adjusting to the game, contributing little, however, after a very poor record in the season, the team decided to change their head coach, and Telfair’s statistics started to improve a little. However, because he wasn’t living up to expectations, he constantly received pressure from fans and the media – he suffered a thumb injury and missed 12 games. After returning, he would become the backup point guard for Steve Blake, but in June 2006, he was traded to the Boston Celtics, however, after one season he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. With no prospects in the NBA to pick him up, he signed with the Tianjin Ronggang of the CBA, playing there for a year before returning to the NBA to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder. After four months, he was waived and then he became part of the Xinjiang Flying Tigers during the 2014 to 2015 season.
