After finishing his degree, he went on to work for WSPD-TV in Paducah, and then at WCWJ in Jacksonville, Florida. By 1988, he had become the weather forecaster for “Eyewitness News” in New York City as part of WABC-TV. These were a good start to his net worth, and his popularity would steadily rise from this point, and even without meteorological training, he did well and employed his broadcasting skills to make up for it.
By 2006, he had become a part of “Good Morning America” which was the start of his net worth increasing considerably, and.he was offered a $1.5 million per year salary by 2012. On top of this, he became the host of “Sea Rescue”, a show that focused on rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing animals.

He had previously been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. Luckily, it was treated and removed during 2010.
