Plaxico Burress Net Worth $6 Million

To give some background information, Plaxico Burress was educated at Green Run High School and Fork Union Military Academy. Burress played college football for Michigan State University, setting several single game and season records for receptions and touchdowns, before being selected 8th in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Burress played 71 games over five seasons for the Steelers, accumulating 261 receptions and 22 touchdowns. After this successful start in the NFL, which certainly gave a solid start to his net worth, Plaxico Burress left the Pittsburgh Steelers and signed a new six-year contract with the New York Giants team, reportedly worth $25 million. Needless to mention the fact, that this increased the net worth of Plaxico Burress considerably. It is worth saying that the player was listed as 7th player for touchdowns during the NFL regular season in 2007, with 12. During this season, the New York Giants won Super Bowl XL11 by beating the favourites, the team of the New England Patriots 17-14.

However, Burress managed to waste huge sums on fines, and spent a period in jail, this interrupting his playing career. In 2008 Burress became the subject of a judicial investigation following an accident which took place in a New York nightclub, when he shot himself with an unlicensed gun, After 20 months spent in prison of New York, Plaxico Burress was released Monday, June 6, 2011, so didn’t play football professionally for almost three years. Further examples of his misdemeanours include being fined $20,000 for comments on officiating after a game, $20,000 for verbal abuse towards the head linesman, $15,000 for slapping the face of the referee and $5,000 for throwing the ball into the crowd. Certainly his hot–blood did not help him to add money to the total size of his wealth.

In 2011, he signed a contract with the New York Jets team, which apparently added more than $3 million to his net worth. During the one season, he recorded 45 receptions and eight touchdowns, before heading back to the Pittsburgh Steelers again for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Unfortunately, before the 2013 season he suffered a career-ending injury, but nevertheless finished his career playing in the same team in which he debuted in the professional sport.

Consequently, Burress left the NFL with statistics of 553 receptions, 8,499 receiving yards and 64 receiving touchdowns.

Furthermore, Plaxico Burress is the author of the book “Giant: The Road to the Super Bowl”. Currently he is a football analyst for SportsNet.
