Peter Jozzeppi Burns was born on the 5th August 1959, in Port Sunlight, Cheshire England, of part-German descent through his mother, and was a singer and songwriter, best known to the world as the lead singer of the band Dead or Alive, with which he released seven studio albums, including “Youthquake” (1985), “Fan the Flame” (Part 1) (1990) and “Fragile” (2000). Pete was the son of Evelina Maria Quittner von Hudec and Francis Burns. His childhood was troublesome, as his mother had problems with alcoholism and depression, and was bothered by other children in the neighborhood because he knew German since his early days. Once in his teens, Pete started his androgynous look, which he nurtured until his last days. Because of his appearance he was called to headmaster’s office, but instead he left school and never went back. Also, he was raped by a man who picked him up while Pete was hitchhiking.
He found a job at Probe records, working behind the counter; while there, he met several musicians and was slowly getting into the music scene of Liverpool. Before he started the band Dead or Alive, he was a part of Mystery Girls, comprising of Pete Wylie and Julian Cope. After that he joined Nightmares in Wax, with which he released several singles, including “Black Leather”, and “Birth of a Nation”. The group then went through a line-up change and also a name change, assuming the name Dead or Alive.
