Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr, was born on 17 January 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky USA. To the entire world he is known as Muhammad Ali – he converted to Islam and changed his name – one of the best boxers in history. During his career he won 51 of 56 fights, winning the world heavyweight title and regaining it twice. Ali was named the Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated magazine, and Sports Personality of the Century by the BBC. Muhammad is also known for winning the gold medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Ali was nicknamed as “The Greatest” and had fights with such boxers as George Foreman and Joe Frazier.
