His Exalted Highness Nizam Sir Mir Osman Ali Khan Siddiqi Asaf Jah VII was born on the 8th April 1886 in Purani Haveli, Hyderabad, British India, as Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur, and he deceased on the 24th February 1967 in King Kothi Palace. He was the 7th and the last Nizam (ruler) of the Princely State of Hyderabad and of Berar. He succeeded his father in 1911.

Mir Osman Ali Khan was the second son of Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, who was the 6th Nizam, and Amat-uz-Zahrunnisa Begum, his first wife. When he was only one year old, his older brother died, so it was already known that he would inherit the title after the death of his father. Thus, great attention was paid to his education and studies. Which included Islamic studies and three different languages – Persian, Urdu and English.
He became the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1911, after the death of his father. His reign lasted for 37 years, until 1948. During his reign, Mir Osman Ali Khan has changed the looks and politics of the Hyderabad. He put his efforts in development of education, and infrastructure. He built railways, roads and airways, and with the growth of his kingdom, Khan`s net worth also grew.
In the beginning of the 1940s, Khan built the first bank in the kingdom, Hyderabad State Bank, and was also responsible for other buildings such as the Osmania General Hospital, Asafiya Library, Osmania University, Hyderabad Museum and many others.
In 1947, Khan gave a neckless and brooches to British Queen Elizabeth, as a gift, today, that necklace is still worn, and is known by the name Nizam of Hyderabad necklace. He has also made donations to other institutions such as Aligarh Muslim University, and Jamia Nizamia.
In 1947, India became an independent country, and immediately attacked Hyderabad, which was subsumed after a short confrontation, marking the end of the Nizam’s reign.
Regarding Mir Osmah Ali Khan’s personal life, he had seven wives. The first of them was Azmathunnisa Begum, with whom he had two sons, Besides his seven wives, Khan had 42 concubines. Furthermore, he had at least 34 children and 104 grandchildren. His son Azam Jah married Durru Shehvar, the daughter of Abdul Mejid II, and Moazzam Jah married the princess of the Ottoman Empire, Niloufer. When he died, his funeral was the largest in Indian history. As with many other politicians of that time, Khan was very human person, as he established the Osmania University in Hyderabad, and spent a considerable amount on education, which was free for the poor. He founded the Main Experimental Farm for agricultural research, which later in 1972 became Agriculture University.
