In 2012, Leinart signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders and was planned as a replacement for his former college football team-mate Carson Palmer. However, Leinart’s contract was terminated after the season. In 2013 after injuries to the quarterbacks EJ Manuel and Kevin Kolb, Leinart signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills, but released after five days. Matt Leinart decided to retire after suffering three season-ending collarbone fractures in six years, and therefore being unable to establish his playing credentials with any consistency.
