Mark Knopfler Net Worth, Biography, Wiki 2017-2016

Mark Knopfler was born on the 12th August 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. He is a singer and guitarist best known as the frontman of the British rock band Dire Straits. His famous guitar seems like a cross between the ethereal sound of The Shadows of Hank Marvin and finger picking play of J.J. Cale. The low-nose Knopfler’s voice evokes memories of Bob Dylan and also J.J. Cale. Among many awards Mark Knopfler has won are a number of Grammy and Brit Awards. Knopfler has been active in the entertainment industry since 1965.

How much is the wealth of the singer? According to the information of authoritative sources, the net worth of Mark Knopfler stands at $95 million, as of the data presented in the middle of 2016. His assets include a collection of classic cars, to give examples: the Maserati 300S and an Austin-Healey 100S.

Mark Knopfler Net Worth $95 Million

Concerning his professional career, Knopfler rose to fame as a lead vocalist and guitarist of the band Dire Straits (1977 – 1995). The band won immediate success with their self-titled debut album in 1978, which includes the famous single “Sultans of Swing” and which constituted their first record deal. In 1985, appeared another studio album “Brothers in Arms”, which was one of the first fully digitally recorded albums. In 1990, he played in the country band The Notting Hillbillies founded by Mark Knopfler, and they released an album “Missing Presumed…. having a good time”. After a series of events focused on all band members they decided to perform only for special occasions. However, Mark’s interest in country music extended to collaborations with Kris Kristofferson, and an album recorded with Emmylou Harris in 2006, to their mutual financial benefit.

Besides his work with the aforementioned bands and artsits, Knopfler has released several soundtracks and later solo albums – his first was called “Golden Heart” and came out in 1996. In 2000, “Sailing to Philadelphia” was released the title track of which was a minor hit in several countries. In 2003, Knopfler was hit while riding his motorcycle, and seven ribs, his shoulder blade and collarbone were broken, so Mark had to stop his activities for seven months.

In 2009 appeared his sixth solo album – “Get Lucky”. For the record, the frontman pulled Dire Straits back into his own British Grove Studios in London, and the studio won the Music Producers Guild Award as the Best Studio. In the middle of 2010 he worked on a world tour consisting of nearly 90 shows in North America and Europe, playing mostly material from his solo career, but also some Dire Straits songs. In 2012, he released his seventh solo album “Privateering”, and iIn 2015 the eighth solo album “Tracker” was released which topped the music charts in almost all European and American countries.

Moreover, Mark Knopfler has also written songs for other artists including “Private Dancer” for Tina Turner and “I Think I Love You Too Much” for the blind blues guitarist Jeff Healey. He worked on the albums “Slow Train Coming” and “Infidels” by Bob Dylan, and acted as producer for, among others Willy DeVille, Aztec Camera and Randy Newman.

Finally, in the personal life of the singer, Mark Knopfler has married for three times, firstly to schoolfriend Kathy White, whom he divorced in 1973. In 1983, Knopfler married Lourdes Salomone; they had twins in 1987, but the couple broke up in 1993. In 1997, Knopfler married the British actress and writer Kitty Aldridge – they have two daughters.

#Fact
1 Is one of the few rock guitarists to use a resonator guitar, a distinctive-sounding instrument that predates electric guitars. The instrument was prominently used in Dire Straits' 1980 hit "Romeo and Juliet". Knopfler's 1937 National Style 0 resonator is displayed on the cover of their 1985 album 'Brothers in Arms'.
2 The distinctive "fuzz" sound of his guitar in Dire Straits' 1985 hit "Money For Nothing" was a "happy accident" discovered while trying to replicate the sound of ZZ Top. The sound was produced completely through microphone setup (including one pointed straight down at the floor), and involved no additional processing or effects.
3 When 'Weird Al' Yankovic asked for permission to record a parody of Dire Straits' hit "Money For Nothing" for his upcoming film UHF (1989), Knopfler agreed with one stipulation: he would perform the song's signature guitar line himself. Knopfler's performance in the song is looser than the original studio version, because by that time he had been performing it live for two years. The song's lyrics are a spoof of the theme from The Beverly Hillbillies (1962); to Yankovic's chagrin, legal wrangling resulted in the song receiving the unwieldy title "Money For Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies".
4 The new solo album "Shangri-la" released. [September 2004]
5 London SW3, England [June 2008]
6 Recently released his fifth solo studio-album Kill to Get Crimson. The album was released on September 14, 2007 in Germany, September 17 in the UK and September 18 in the USA. [September 2007]
7 New solo album, 'The Ragpicker's Dream', released. [September 2002]
8 Prior to commencing his career as a professional musician, Knopfler studied journalism at Harlow Technical College and worked for two years as a junior reporter on the Yorkshire Evening Post. In 1973 he graduated in English from Leeds University and became a lecturer at Loughton College in Essex.
9 He wrote and recorded the backing track for the song "Private Dancer" for the 1982 Dire Straits album 'Love Over Gold'. Before recording the vocals, he realized that the lyric should be sung by a woman, and the track was shelved. Two years later, the track was re-recorded by Tina Turner, backed by most of Dire Straits, but with Jeff Beck on guitar; the song was the title track on Turner's 1984 comeback album, and one of the biggest hits of her career.
10 Fender has a signature stratocaster named after him: Fender Mark Knopfler Stratocaster ®. They come only in candy red and with Mark's signature on the headstock.
11 With his band Dire Straits won Grammys in the following categories: "Money for Nothing" (Best Rock Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal) (1985); "Brothers in Arms" (Best Music Video, Short Form) (1986).
12 Dire Straits won the British Phonographic Industry Award for British Group in 1983.
13 Dire Straits' "Brothers in Arms" won the British Phonographic Industry Award for British Album in 1987.
14 Dire Straits won the British Phonographic Industry Award for British Group in 1986.

16 Children: Benji and Joseph (twins), 1987, by second marriage; Isabella, 1998, and Katya Ruby Rose, 2003, by third marriage to Kitty Aldridge.
17 Has a signature guitar model, the Martin HD-40MK Mark Knopfler Signature Edition.
18 Has a dinosaur named after him (Masiakasaurus knopfleri) - The researchers who discovered bones from six specimens in Madagascar reported that they found the fossils whilst listening to Dire Straits tapes.
19 Children: Benji and Joseph (twins), 1987, by second marriage; Isabella, 1998, by third marriage to Kitty Aldridge.
