Since the age of two Manuel has been keen on soccer, and as he grew, his interest only became greater. He joined Schalke 04 in 1991, and passed through its youth system, before making a debut for the first team in 2006-2007 season, replacing injured Frank Rost, however, he eventually took Rost’s place permanently.
