Toussaint grew up in Trinidad and Tobago; being raised under the strict British system made her childhood a quite rough time. When she was 10 years old, she moved to Brooklyn, New York City, with her mother. She attended New York City’s High School of Performing arts, matriculating in 1978 and then enrolling in the acclaimed Juilliard School’s drama division, obtaining her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1982.

Toussaint’s career began on stage, appearing in various theater productions. She then expanded her range into television roles, making her small screen debut in 1983 with the TV film “The Face of Rage”. Another television film role followed in 1986, playing a widow in “A Case of Deadly Force”. In 1988 she landed the role of Vera Williams in the ABC daytime soap opera “One Life to Live”, paving her way to recognition. The following year she made her film debut with the female lead role of Delphine the Hooker in the crime comedy “Breaking In”. Her fortune began to grow.

Opportunities continued to come Toussaint’s way in the ’90s as well. Aside from making appearances in series like “227”, “Law & Order” and “M.A.N.T.I.S.”, she was a series regular in “Bodies of Evidence”, “Where I Live”, “Amazing Grace” and “Leaving L.A.”, and appeared in a number of television films as well. As for the big screen, she played Beth in “Point of No Return” and had the lead role of Irene Roberts in “Dangerous Minds”. All contributed to her popularity, and to her wealth as well.

In 1998 Toussaint was cast in the Lifetime television drama series “Any Day Now”, playing the role of successful lawyer Rene Jackson, remaining on the show for four seasons until 2002. The series boosted her reputation of a talented actress, greatly improving her wealth status.

As “Any Day Now” ended, she went on to join the cast of “Crossing Jordan”, an NBC crime/drama series, playing medical examiner Dr. Duchamps during the show’s second season. She then had recurring roles in the series “Frasier”, and later in “Ugly Betty”, and made numerous television guest appearances. All added to her net worth.

In 2007 she was cast as Captain Kate Perry in the TNT crime drama series “Saving Grace”. She remained on the show for three seasons until 2010, which reinforced her status of a star and additionally increased her wealth.

Meanwhile, she appeared in the drama film “The Soloist”, and landed a recurring role in the NBC drama “Friday Night Lights”. In the years to come, Toussaint tackled a mix of TV and film work, making a number of television guest appearances, and landing recurring roles in the series “Body of Proof”, “The Fosters” and “Orange Is the New Black”. Since 2015, she plays Donna Rosewood in the series “Rosewood”. As for the big screen, Toussaint had starring roles in the films “Runaway Island”, “Sophie and the Rising Sun” and “Freak Show”; her net worth continues to rise.

When it comes to her private life, Toussaint was married to Micah Zane; they divorced in 2016 – they have a daughter.
