Lisa grew up in Gainesville, Florida, where she went to the F. W. Buchholz High School, from where she matriculated in 1987. During her high school days, Carson participated as a singer in the “America’s Junior Miss” talent show, being runner-up for the Gainesville region. However, she decided to pursue an acting career instead of in singing.

Lisa debuted in an episode of the Golden Globe Award-nominated series “Law & Order” in 1991, while in 1992 she appeared in an episode of the Golden Globe Award-winning “The Cosby Show”, and in “The Apollo Comedy Hour”. After “Ally McBeal” ended, Carson had a break from acting for ten years, when she retreated to New York to receive treatment for her bipolar disorder. She returned in an episode of the Primetime Emmy Award-winning “Harry’s Law” in 2012, and at the moment she is working on a new series – “The New Edition Story” (2017).
