He is the son of former world champion boxer Ken Norton, who is one of the few to ever beat Muhammad Ali. Ken attended Westchester High School, and during his time there, played football mainly as a running back. After matriculating, he attended UCLA, playing for the school’s team from 1984 to 1987. He was changed to the linebacker position and would carry on that role for the rest of his playing career. He helped the Bruins get to four consecutive bowl game wins and was part of the 1985 conference championship team. In 1987, he earned All-American honors and was a finalist for the Butkus Award. Norton Jr. joined the 1988 NFL Draft and was selected by the Dallas Cowboys during the second round.
