Ken was born into a Jewish family and grew up in Flushing. After finishing high school, he enrolled at Vassar College, located in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he studied drama. He then moved to Los Angeles, California in order to pursue a career in film, primarily as a screenwriter.
Unfortunately, Ken didn’t have much success, though he did write two screenplays. So in 1995 he became a game designer at Looking Glass Studios. His first creation was the successful first-person stealth video game “Thief: The Dark Project”, on which he worked with Doug Church.
