James Carville was raised with seven siblings by his mother, Lucille Carville, who worked as a school teacher, and his father, Chester James Carville, who was the owner of a general store, and a postmaster. His hometown was named after his grandfather, Louis Arthur Carville, who was also a postmaster. James went to Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, after which he earned undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from Louisiana State University (LSU), where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Later, he served in the US Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Corporal, and when he returned home, James worked as a school teacher in high school, as well as a litigator at the law company Baton Rouge from 1973 to 1979.

His early work in politics included leading gubernatorial campaigns for Robert Casey of Pennsylvania, Zell Miller for Georgia, and Bererton Jones for Kentucky. After that he managed to overthrow Dick Thornburgh from senator position in favor of Harris Wofford, who had a 40 point deficit before the elections; thanks to that success, he was selected to represent Bill Clinton in the 1992 presidential campaign. James continued with success, as Clinton was elected as the 42nd President of the USA, defeating George W. Bush. After that, he switched to foreign leaders, representing such notable politicians as Tony Blair, Ehud Barak, Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, Asraf Ghani, Juan Manuel Santos, among many others. His net worth was rising.

He returned to the USA presidential campaign in 2008, representing Hillary Clinton, however, she lost to Barack Obama, who later became the 44th President of the USA.

Apart from his work in politics, James has also appeared in several TV and radio shows, and films as well. In 2006 he hosted the sports show called 60/20 Sports on XM Satellite Radio, alongside Luke Russert. James served as executive producer of the film “All the King`s Men” (2006), with Sean Penn and Anthony Hopkins, also he featured in the film “The People vs. Larry Flynt” (1996), the TV series “K Street” (2003), and films “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” (2007), “Swing Vote” (2008), “The Adjustment Bureau” (2011), “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” (2013), and most recently “Delta Justice: The Islenos Trappers War” (2015), all of which certainly increased his net worth.

James is also recognized as an author, releasing more than 10 books, including “All’s Fair: Love, War and Running for President” (1995), “Sticking: The Case for Loyalty” (2000), “It’s the Middle Class, Stupid!” (2012), and “We’re Still Right, They’re Still Wrong: The Democrats’ Case for 2016” (2016), among others, all of which added a substantial amount to his net worth.
