Jack Nicklaus’ father Charlie was an all-round sportsman, who had played college and semi-pro American football, as well as tennis and golf – off scratch. Jack studied at Upper Arlington High School, where he played basketball, tennis, baseball and football quite successfully. Jack began playing golf when he was only 10 years old, at the “Scioto Country Club”, where he met his future golf instructor, Jack Grout. Soon Jack started participating in championships and won many of them. #Quote
1 When I was fifteen years old I was playing with my father and I hit an eight-iron into a trap, and the club went right into the trap after the ball. My father said, 'Young man, that'll be the last club you'll throw or the last hole you'll play if I have anything to say about it.' He got his message across.
