Haruhiko Kuroda Net Worth

Haruhiko Kuroda was born on 25 October 1944, in Omuta, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan and is well known in business circles as the Governor of the Bank of Japan. As such he is the chief banker of the world’s No. 3 largest economy, and is therefore ranked by Forbes magazine in 2015 as the 48th most powerful person in the world.

So just how rich is Haruhiko Kuroda? Kuroda’s total net worth is reputedly around $5 million. His salary was recently increased to $294,000, still below that of his previous position, and considerably below those of his contemporaries in the USA and UK.

Haruhiko Kuroda Net Worth $5 Million

Haruhiko Kuroda first studied law, graduating from the University of Tokyo with a BA in Law in 1967. He subsequently studied at Oxford University, graduating with a MPhil in Economics in 1971, although he had begun his career in 1967 when he joined Japan’e Ministry of Finance.

Kuroda made steady progress during the next 20 years, including a term with the International Monetary Fund, until being appointed Director, International Organizations Division, International Finance Bureau in 1987, and secretary to the Minister of Finance the following year. From 1989 to 1994 he filled directorships in the Tax Bureau, and then the following 10 years in senior positions in the International Finance bureau, culminating as Director-General, International Bureau, and then Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs.

In 2003 Haruhiko Kuroda became Special Advisor to the Cabinet, while concurrently Professor of the Graduate School of Economics at Hitotsubashi University, both positions held for two years until appointed to the very important role of President of the Asian Development Bank in 2005, which position he held until 2013. This latter job was particularly difficult, as not only was Kuroda subject to the pressures of political, economic, and social requirements of Asian countries, but the global crisis of 2007-8 and subsequent recession also had a very significant impact in all areas of international economic development, and trade.

Of course all these appointments contributed to a steady, if unspectacular increase to Kuroda’s net worth, certainly nothing comparable to that which could have been enjoyed by a captain of industry in Japan.

Haruhiko Kuroda’s career has now most probably reached its peak in his current position with a least a five year tenure as the Governor of the Bank of Japan, to which he was nominated by President Abe in 2013 and subsequently appointed. Clearly President Abe identified a fellow economic thinker in Kuroda – particularly as the latter had been a critic of the BoJ – in managing the quantitative easing (QE) policy instituted by the President in an attempt to stimulate investment in Japanese business and therefore growth in the country’s overall economy.

Haruhiko Kuroda has also authored several books on monetary policy, exchange rate, international finance policy coordination, international taxation, and international negotiations, which have added an indeterminate amount to his net worth.

In his personal life, Haruhiko Kuroda is married to Kumiko Kuroda, and the couple has two children.
