#Fact
1 Campaigned for the Labour Party in the 2015 General Election, and announced his intention to run as Mayor of London for Labour.
2 Former Doctor Who (1963) star Tom Baker championed Izzard to play the Doctor when the series was revived. Baker described Izzard as "so mysterious and strange".
3 When appearing on Question Time (1979) in 2016, he repeatedly berated UKIP leader Nigel Farage, accusing him of hypocrisy for wanting controls on immigration despite being a descendant of a family that migrated and being someone whose wife was German. Farage has always said he is simply against uncontrolled immigration. Izzard's constant interruptions on the programme were criticised by host David Dimbleby and prompted a number of complaints to the BBC which were broadcast on NewsWatch (2004). Farage could have addressed the contradiction early on, but didn't get much chance to speak because Izzard was constantly interrupting.
4 A prominent unionist, he actively campaigned in the Scottish Independence Referendum in 2014 for Scotland to stay in the UK and the referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union in 2016 for the UK to stay in Europe. He was on the winning side in the first and the losing side in the second.
5 Glen Quagmire chooses Eddie Izzard over Dame Judy Dench in one of Peter Griffin's hypothetical "Who would you rather do?" games, in the Family Guy episode "Screams of Silence: the story of Brenda Q".
6 Made a surprise appearance as one of the "Bruces" in the "Philopher's Song" sketch during the 2014 reunion show for Monty Python's Flying Circus.
7 Touring the United States, Australia, and New Zealand with his new show, "Sexie", throughout the last half of the year. [August 2003]
8 Playing the role in David Mamet's play, "Race", on Broadway in New York City. [July 2010]
9 Currently starring in the F/X series, The Riches (2007), airing on Tuesday nights and repeats on Sunday and Monday nights. [April 2007]
10 Late spring, 2010, touring Canada with his one man show, Stripped. [2010]
11 United Kingdom, Europe, and South Africa: Touring with Force Majeure [June 2013]
12 Currently touring the U.S. with his one-man show, "Stripped." [2008]
13 He is a prominent celebrity supporter of Britain's Labour Party, has made financial donations to the party and appeared on stage at the 2009 party conference.
14 Eddie spent August and September 2009 literally running around the UK, from London, England, to Cardiff, Wales, to Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Edinburgh, Scotland, and back to London. He ran approximately 30 miles per day for a total of about 1100 miles, to raise money for the charity "Sport Relief," which is part of "Comic Relief.".
15 Originally played Darren McCarthy in Day 6 of 24 (2001). He dropped out due to scheduling conflicts after only a day of filming. He was replaced by David Hunt.
16 In a 2005 poll to find the Comedian's Comedian, Izzard was voted as number 19 out of the top 50 greatest comedy acts in history by fellow comedians and comedy insiders.
17 During the 1999 television special Python Night: 30 Years of Monty Python (1999), which Izzard hosted, John Cleese said Izzard was the lost Python.
18 In 1991 he was nominated for the Perrier Award.
19 Sarah Townsend composes the music for all of his shows.
20 Uses 3 distinct voices in most of his one-man shows - God (James Mason), Sean Connery (several, including Noah) and Mrs. Badcrumble (Scottish clarinet teacher). In real life, Mrs. Badcrumble was his piano teacher as a young boy.
21 Was touring in New Zealand during the filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He heard about the filming and, being such a big fan of the books, asked if he could make an appearance in the films. He was declined.
22 Speaks French with such fluency that he's performed multiple comedy shows entirely in French. Same goes with German.
23 His comedy routines frequently contain the following elements: references to jam, banjos, bananas, monkeys, and the names Jeff, Kev, and Steve; world history; the Bible, using an impression of James Mason to portray God; pantomime; mumbling; and foreign languages, sometimes actually performing in French or German for English-speaking audiences.
24 Auditioned for the role of Rodney Skinner (The Invisible Man) in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), but lost out to Tony Curran.
25 Is dyslexic.
26 Was nominated for Broadway's 2003 Tony Award as best actor (play) for a revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg.

#Quote
1 When I was about ten my Mum got sick, and when you get sick, you're supposed to get better...
2 Hitler was a Mass-Murdering Fuckhead, as many important Historians have said...
3 [To Nigel Farage] Nigel, you told your followers to bully people to vote for you. This is not the right attitude for people to have.
4 The Aryan Supremacists have their thing about getting chemical weapons and killing people. "Why, though? What's the plan? What does that achieve?" "Er, nothing, really..."
5 So at the age of six I went off to St John's boarding school in Porthcawl, Wales. It was run by a very pleasant man called Mr. Crump who we nicknamed 'the man from hell who we all hate'. Seeing as my Mum had just died I decided to cry relentlessly for about a year. Mr. Crump would help me along with beatings when he could fit them in.
6 The EU is the cutting edge of politics, just in the most tremendously boring way.
7 So I liked the cadets, running, jumping, climbing trees, flags. Didn't like the bit about learning how to kill people with razor wire. Thought I'd rather learn their language and visit their countries... The British, we go around the World going "Sausage, egg and chips, please! Sausage, egg and chips!" Even in Afghanistan! "Sausage, egg and chips, please! Do you speak English? You just don't try, do you? Going around all day, speaking Afghan." That's a kind of dog, isn't it? ... "Two languages in one head? No-one can live at that speed!" "But the Dutch speak four languages and smoke marijuana!" "Yes, well, but they're cheating! Everybody knows that marijuana is a drug enhancement that can help you in track and field win a race against ten men that are dead!"
8 If a girl falls over in heels it's embarrassing, but if a guy falls over in heels, well, you have to kill yourself!
9 I knew I was TV, a transvestite, but I kept it to myself with a brilliant strategy of Don't-tell-Kids-at-School-and-Don't-get-killed. And bullies in the playground are like "Why are we beating this one up?" "I don't know, he used a word we didn't understand. And he won at Scrabble with it."
10 Bad dog exists. "Bad dog!" we say "Stole a biscuit, that's a bad dog!" And the dog says "Who are you to judge me? You humans have had wars against people of different creeds, colours and religions, and I stole a biscuit? People of the World!" "Oh, when you put it that way, have another biscuit."
11 Some people are homophobic. But as long as they're homophobic in their own homes, behind closed doors, and don't hurt anyone...
12 My God, what have you been smoking? You haven't been smoking in a bar in California, that's for sure! [laughter] Because you can't! Yes, no smoking in bars now, and soon no drinking and no talking!
13 Drama is a complete meal, vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates. It's a slow burn thing. It's got an arc. Comedy is more like coke.
14 I said to myself that I would make all my comedy universal and I took out, fifteen years ago, all British references. I'll talk abut Greeks, Romans, cats with guns, supermarkets, hair cuts, but I won't talk about John Major or the 195 bus to Stretham
15 [on political extremes] About 80 to 90 percent of the world is live and let live. I want to fight for that. Right-wingers have a beguiling politics because it is simplistic. We have complex politics in the centre and you have to try to simplify it, to explain it, because sometimes you have ten choices. Right-wingers - you have one choice: Agree with me or I'll kill you. It's that one that Hitler used...The dumbest thing the right wing ever came up with, back in the day [was] We've got to kill someone because it's really rainy and the crops are failing, so we have to kill Steve.
16 My dad was working-class. One granddad drove a bus. The other was a cowherder who said he was a shepherd. He didn't like being a cowherd but shepherd sounded pretty groovy. Like Jesus.
17 I'm excited to play Thunder Bay (Ontario) because I assume it's an exciting place where thunder happens.
18 [on spending time in New York City]: They only have a few days -- go see a big musical like Billy Elliot. If you have more time, see me show.
19 [on running marathons]: Animals in the wild are lean, and I think we should be too.
20 [on Ellis Island's immigration history]: I do find history fascinating, I find people fascinating, and I'm quite good at standing somewhere and taking out all the new stuff and imagining people coming in and I would have been with them.
21 [on the Statue of Liberty]: Funny that France gave that to the United States. What did the U.S. give them in return?
22 I don't know what it's like in the U.S. but immigrants in the U.K. do the jobs the citizens won't do.
23 When I first came out, I thought, I want to walk like a real woman, I don't want to do mincing steps. And there was some girl I saw walking up Holloway Road in Islington who had this long languid walk and I thought, that's what I like, so I incorporated her walk into mine.
24 My sexuality is straight transvestite or male lesbian. It seems we are beyond the idea that I am gay and hiding it. If I had to describe how I feel in my head, I'd say I'm a complete boy plus half a girl. I don't seem to have the sixth sense that women have or their stronger senses of taste and smell. Gay men can also have it but straight men don't.
25 I definitely have breast envy. When teenage girls were saying 'I wish I had breasts', I was thinking the same thing.
26 I can go from blokey to girlie in 15 minutes and then I'm out the door. But that's the fastest I can do it. Becoming a woman takes work.
27 I'd be happy to be taken as a woman -- and that's what I was initially trying to do when I started throwing on dresses and stuff. But that wasn't going to happen because everyone kept calling me sir. So I thought I'd change the method and just start wearing what I wanted to wear.
