Derek Fisher Net Worth, Biography, Wiki 2017-2016

Derek Lamar Fisher was born on the 9th August 1974 in Little Rock, Arkansas USA, of African and American ancestry. He is best known for being a retired professional NBA player, who played for 18 seasons, and then as a basketball coach for the New York Knicks team in the NBA. He is also recognized for being a president of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). His professional basketball career has been active since 1996.

Have you ever wondered how rich is Derek Fisher, as of early 2016? According to authoritative sources, it is estimated that Derek’s net worth is over $40 million, earned through his successful career in basketball.

Derek Fisher Net Worth $40 Million

Derek Fisher spent his childhood with younger brother, Duane Washington, who is also a retired NBA player, in Little Rock, where he attended high school. During his studies there, he started playing basketball, and then continued when he enrolled at the University of Arkansas to study Communications.

While at Arkansas, Derek continued successfully with his basketball career, winning the Sun Belt`s Player Of The Year award in 1996, which was his last season as a college player. During the four years he spent there, Derek wore his team jersey for 112 games, totaling 1393 points, 472 assists and 189 steals, which brought him to second place on the all-time list.

Fisher then entered the 1996 NBA Draft, and his professional career began when he was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers as the 24th overall pick. Derek stayed with the team until 2004, winning three consecutive champion titles with the historic Lakers` team which included Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Thanks to his performances, his net worth began slowly to rise, as he earned a new contract after the initial rookie deal ended. After he finished his tenure at the Los Angeles Lakers, Fisher signed a five year deal with Golden State Warriors for $37 million, which increased his net worth by a large margin.

However, his game performance started to decline, and as a result he was then traded to the Utah Jazz for Devin Brown, Keith McLeod and Andre Owens. In 2007, Fisher asked to be released from his contract, as one of his children became ill, and he was obligated to move to city which could cure his child health problems, but also to find a team for which he could play, and return the old fame, which resulted in him signing a three year contract worth $14 million with the Lakers.

Derek stayed with the Lakers until 2012, renewing his contract in 2010, but two years later was traded to Houston Rockets for Jordan Hill. Fisher never played for Houston, as he was waived by the team, and soon signed with the Oklahoma Thunder for the rest of the 2012 season. When the season ended and his contract expired, Fisher began to search for a new engagement in the NBA league, and soon signed with the Dallas Mavericks, further adding to his net worth.

Before he decided to retire, he spent two more seasons with the Oklahoma Thunder, playing 81 regular season games, and 19 play-off games, setting the record for the most play-off games in the history of the NBA with 259.

After retirement, Fisher became the head coach of the New York Knicks, signing a two year contract worth $25 million, which increased his net worth to a large degree, however, he was fired in February 2016, due to a series of bad results, finishing with the overall score of 40-96.

Regarding his personal life, Derek Fisher married Candace in February 2005, and the couple were together until March 2015. They have four children.
