By the late ’60s the band had notably evolved, and Dave started released solo singles with success in Britain, although hardly reaching the US. In 1967 he positioned as no.3 on the UK charts with the song „Death of a Clown“, which was also included on the Kinks’ LP. Another single of his – „Susannah’s Still Alive“ – also achieved good results and was well accepted by the public. However, it wasn’t until the ’80s that Dave finally started a solo career by releasing a series of rock albums and demos. Although at the time his work didn’t gain much critical acclaim, it was well-noted on „Unfinished Business: Dave Davies Kronikles 1963-1998“ released in the late ’90s.

In 2002 he released his first album of new material called „The hard-rocking Bug“. Having suffered from a stroke in 2004, his illness and recovery inspired his song „God in My Brain“, and a year later he released his first full-length studio album on the Koch label. In June 2013, Davis released another album called „I Will Be Me“ and a year later performed at his first UK concert for 13 years.

When it comes to his private life, Davies had an intense relationship as a teenager with his girlfriend Sue Sheehan. The two were forced to separate by their families after Sue found out she was pregnant, and Dave didn’t meet their daughter until 1993.
