Billups attended George Washington High School and already during his studies he received an impressive number of acknowledgments of his talent. He was a four-time All-State first team pick, three times Colorado Mr. Basketball and twice Colorado Player of the Year. Upon matriculation, Chauncey decided to enroll at the University of Colorado where he continued to rack up awards as he was named to the All-Big 12 Conference First Team in the 1996-97 season, the Basketball Times All-American First Team and Consensus 2nd team All-American. In the 1997 NBA Draft, he was third to be drafted by the Boston Celtics but due to poor relations with the club management he was traded to the Toronto Raptors and soon after, the Denver Nuggets. In 2008, Billups was traded to the Denver Nuggets once again, and contributed to the team’s regeneration and franchise records. Despite his desire to retire as a member of the Nuggets, in February 2011 Billups was traded to the New York Knicks.
