His career on television was active from 1993 until 2009.

He soon found a job in his father`s waste company before his decision to move to the Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he began work as a salesman of Washmatik portable devices and other products advertised on television, at the Atlantic City boardwalk. This period was the start of building his net worth.

After his initial success as a salesman, he then traveled across the country visiting numerous auto shows and state fairs, selling various maintenance tools and other products for a 12-year span, His net worth grew steadily until in 1993, when Billy`s wealth began to increase significantly, as he teamed up with Max Appel, founder of OrangeGlo International, and soon he was hired as a promoter of the company`s products, such as OrangeGlo, OrangeClean and OxiClean

Because of his skills, in the next few years he earned time on the Home Shopping Network, and received numerous positive customer reviews, which enabled him to expand his career, and establish his own company, Mays Promotions Inc. After that, Billy`s name became well-known in the industry and his services were sought by numerous brands, as he worked on infomercials for Mighty Putty, Zorbeez, Turbo Tiger and Kaboom among others, all of which added significant amounts to his net worth.

In adding to his net worth, Billy worked as the ESPN advertiser, promoting its online services such as ESPN360. Furthermore to his career on the ESPN, he made a live appearance during the 2008 Champs Sports Game, announcing the ESPN`s and ABC`s bowl games scheduled for the 1st January 2009.

Before his death, Billy was featured in his own show “PitchMen”, alongside his colleague Anthony Sullivan, airing on the Discovery Channel. Following his death, Discovery Channel aired a tribute episode to Billy entitled “PitchMen: A Tribute To Billy Mays”.

Billy died on 28th June 2009 apparently because of the consequences of suffering from heart disease, however, the autopsy showed the presence of painkiller drugs which also contributed to his demise.

Billy left his wife Debora Mays(2002-09) and his daughter, Elizabeth; furthermore, Billy had a son, Billy Mays III, from his previous marriage with Delores Mays.
