Antonio Davis grew up in California and went to the McClymonds in Oakland, and then studied computer information systems at UTEP, where he played basketball for the Miners from 1986 to 1990, with teammate future NBA player Tim Hardaway, and after four seasons, the Indiana Pacers selected him as the 45th pick overall in the 1990 NBA Draft.
However, Antonio decided to play in Europe before committing to the NBA, so he represented Panathinaikos in the Greek League from 1990 to 1992 and Philips Milano of the Italian League from 1992 to 1993 – with Milano, Davis won the Korać Cup championship in 1993. He returned to the US in 1993 to play for the Indiana Pacers, and had an important role in his rookie season, helping the team to reach the Eastern Conference Finals, where they lost to the New York Knicks in six games.
The following season, Indiana reached the Eastern Conference Finals again after defeating the Atlanta Hawks (3-0), New York Knicks (4-3), but then lost to the Orlando Magic in seven games. In the 1995-96 season, Davis and the Pacers advanced to the playoffs, but the Atlanta Hawks beat them in five games in the first round. In 2000-01, Antonio had his best year as he averaged 13.7 points, with 10.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks, earning his place in the 2001 All-Star game, but the Raptors were beaten by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the playoffs. Davis was the team captain the following season as he recorded 14.5 points, with 9.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, but was then traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2004, where he didn’t play a big role, and was traded to the New York Knicks.
