Anita was abandoned by her biological mother, and was raised by her foster parents from the age of two. Steeped in music since her childhood, Anita started singing in her teenage years, initially performing in nightclubs in Detroit which helped her to get noticed by David Washington who eventually helped her to sign with Ariola Records as a member of the group, Chapter 8. The band went on to release a self-titled album which however did not succeed in the music market.

Eventually, driven by her passion for music, Anita started a solo music career in 1982 when she signed a deal with the Beverley Glen label, and released an album, “The Songstress” in 1983. Singles from the album like “No More Tears”, “Angel” and “You’re the Best Thing Yet” went on to get listed in R&B charts, and with this success, Anita became a known name in the American music industry. As a singer, she has released a total of seven albums in her solo career, including “Rapture”, “Compisitions”, “My Everything”, “Rhythm of Love”, etc. and one as a member of the band, Chapter 8. These albums have obviously been handy in raising her net worth while her concert tours have also helped a lot in this cause.

For her contribution to music, Baker has been rewarded and honored with Grammy Awards eight times over the years. Anita has also been credited for releasing successful albums as five have been certified platinum by RIAA while one is certified gold. Adding to this, she has also been rewarded with four American Music Awards and seven Soul Train Music Awards, not to mention multiple nominations for different honorable awards.

As of now, the honorific singer, Anita Baker has been living her celebrated life in Grosse Pointe, Michigan where she enjoys her current substantial net worth of $80 million.
