Adrian went to Marple Newtown Senior High School, and after matriculation received a football scholarship to attend the University of Florida, playing as a linebacker for the Florida Gators. Unfortunately, he suffered a life-threatening car accident which left his in a wheelchair for the entirety of the school year. During his whole freshman year he underwent intensive physical therapy, while also taking classes at the university.

However, by the end of the year he switched his interest to campus stage productions, and discovered his talent for acting and writing. He dropped out of studies and turned back home, where he joined the People’s Light and Theatre Company. He started working for them and was responsible for set construction, however, he again suffered an accident and received a settlement, which he used for enrolling at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York City.

His career saw a great start, since he got the role of Chipper, which was written just for him, in the film “Top Gun” (1986), starring Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis and Tim Robbins. He continued with roles in films “Solarbabies” (1986), “Streets of Gold” (1986), and he starred in the Kathryn Bigelow action drama “Near Dark” (1987), next to Jenny Wright and Lance Henriksen. Three years later he was selected for the lead role of Jim Profit in the TV series of the same name (1996-1997), while in 1997 he starred next to Victoria Principal in the romantic drama “Love in Another Town”. In 2000 Adrian was chosen for the role of Declan Dunn in the sci-fi drama TV series “Mysterious Ways” (2000-2002), sharing the lead roles with Rae Dawn Chong and Alisen Down, and then from 2003 until 2005 appeared in 33 episodes in the Golden Globe Award- nominated TV series “Judging Amy”. #Quote
1 "I've used every ounce of energy and every drop of money I had to make Cement (2000)." - on directing the feature film Cement (2000).
2 I had gotten so out of touch with reality that one day in 1992. I just sold my house at a $200,000.00 loss, moved back East, and put my money into T-bills. I spent the next year working behind the counter and running the cash register for room and board at Vandam Diner, a little lower east Manhattan diner, owned by a friend's father.
3 I love directing. It's a different level of focus and a real mental challenge.
4 "This is merely the first of ten children" - said on announcing that he and his wife Natalie Maines (Dixie Chicks singer) are expecting their first child in April 2001.
