He has been an active member of the entertainment industry since 1973.

Aamir grew up in a family of four siblings; his father is the renowned Hindi film producer Tahir Hussain and his uncle is Nassir Hussain, another recognized member of the Hindi film industry. Regarding Aamir`s education, he received his diploma from the Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai.

Aamir`s career began rather early, unsurprising in a family of filmmakers, and he was introduced to camera at the age of eight. His first appearance was in the musical film “Yaadon Ki Baaraat” (1973), directed by his uncle Nassir Hussain, and next year he was featured in the film entitled “Madhosh” (1974) produced by his father .

Nonetheless, his earlier appearances, in fact until the 2000s, he didn`t have much success. With the beginning of the 2000s, he was featured in numerous films which gained major commercial success. In 2001 he appeared in the film “Lagan”, his first major role, followed by appearances in the films “Rang De Bashanti” (2006), “Faana” (2006) and “Taare Zamen Par” (2007).

In 2008 he appeared in the film “Ghajini” which also increased his net worth as it became the highest grossing movie of that year. In 2009 he earned a role in the film “3 Idiots”, which became the highest grossing film ever in Bollywood productions.

His latest ventures in the film industry includes an appearance in the 2014 film “PK”, alongside other Bollywood stars such as Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Boman Irani.

In addition to his acting career, and boosting his net worth, Aamir has founded a production company entitled “Aamir Khan Productions”, the first film under this company was the “Lagaan” in 2001. Furthermore, Aamir has also signed his name under successful films such as “Taare Zameen Paar” (2007) and “Talaash” (2012).

During his career, Aamir has earned numerous nominations as well awards, including for the “Best Film” for the “Lagaan” (2001) and “Taare Zameen Paar” (2007), and “Best Actor” for his role in the film “Dhoom 3”. All this success makes him one of the greatest actors of the Bollywood scene.

Furthermore, several others recognitions and achievements speak of his popularity; in 2001, he was ranked as the 3rd Most Powerful Indian Film Star and in 2009 he received the award “Indian Of The Year In Cinema” by NDTV.

To talk about his personal life, Khan was married to Reena Dutta, from 1987 to 2002, and they have two children. He has been married to Kiran Rao since 2010, and the couple has one child, born in 2011.

5 In 1995, Aamir stopped attending the Filmfare Awards. Many think he gave up since he had been nominated numerous times from 1988-95 and never won once, but it was really because Aamir began to think Filmfare was biased and rigged. He felt that they were toying with him by purposely not winning him any awards, and that they were biased against him in favor of actors like Shah Rukh Khan, who was sweeping awards back then even though he was a newcomer. He felt he should have won the Best Actor award for his films Rangeela (1995), Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (1991). He also thought Filmfare was rude by not even nominating him for his other acclaimed works Dil (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke (1993). So, in the end, he just gave up.
6 Him and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan are arch-rivals. They have never done a film together even though they both have been offered many opportunities to do so. In 2007, Shah Rukh Khan mocked Aamir for his choosiness in films and not attending the Filmfare Awards, and after that, Aamir went on to say that Shah Rukh is "the name of my dog who licks my feet". This caused them to avoid each other for bit, but they patched up in 2013. However, they have been competing and taking digs at each other since 1995, when Aamir stopped attending Filmfare Awards.

1 I have no objections to film awards per se. I just feel that if I don't value a particular film award, then I won't attend it either. Apart from the national award, I don't see any other award ceremony that I should give value to. My personal experience about these award ceremonies is that I don't trust them. I have no faith in them so I would prefer to stay away.
2 Rani [Mukerji] is a close friend. She is someone I am extremely fond of. We share a very good relationship. We can depend on each other.
3 Rani is one of my closest friends, we can talk about anything.
4 If a star comes close to holding the sway that Madhuri Dixit or Kajol did, it is Rani Mukerji. She pays attention to her work, has matured and become experienced with time.
5 A star needs to have style. Unfortunately I have very little. But Salman [Khan] has it all.
6 I enjoy the love I receive from my fans and my audience. But I think I know what is real for me and what is not.
7 My son is a harsh critic.
8 I found that what happened 150 years ago was happening again with Americans entering other countries and exploiting them but pretending they were doing a favor. It was this contemporary feel that attracted me.
9 Film making is like fighting a war with leadership at the front.
10 "There's a lot of talent both in India and Pakistan. I think the talent in both these two countries should come together and entertain the world audience. If the right offer and opportunity comes my way, I'd love to do a movie in Pakistan." (12 May 2006)
11 Every film I do means a lot to me. The failure of Mela, definitely made a difference to me. I am not comfortable with the idea of my films not releasing to their full potential.
